Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme
The Highland Council have applied to Scottish Ministers and the Highland Council Planning Department for consent to construct new infrastructure for the Corran Ferry service on the Ardgour and Nether Lochaber sides of the Corran Narrows, Loch Linnhe. The development will involve the construction of a new slipway and an overnight berthing pier at Ardgour, and the construction of a new slipway, breakwater, marshalling area, parking, cycle path and public facilities, north of the Corran settlement on the Nether Lochaber side, to support the operation of a new electric vessel.
To obtain the necessary construction consents, The Highland Council submitted a planning application and marine licence application for the proposed infrastructure works in early 2025. Links to copies of the public notices advertising these applications, supporting documents and further information on the proposals are available at the Council’s Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme webpage Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme (external link).

The consultation period is now closed.
The Highland Council held pre-application consultation events between November 2022 and 2024 to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to consider and comment upon the proposal. Information presented during the final round of pre-application consultation is provided via the links below.

Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme Questionnaire
Affric Limited were pleased to be lead the pre-application consultation process for the Highland Council’s Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme. In response to feedback, we’d like to clarify the scope of the consultation we are facilitated.
Pre-application consultation is a process legally required to support the planning permission and marine licence consent applications for the Infrastructure Improvement Scheme. As such, the above consultation was tailored to (and only required for) activities requiring consent. For the Infrastructure Improvement Scheme, this predominantly includes the construction activities and operations associated with the proposed new infrastructure (i.e., new slipways, overnight berthing structure, breakwater, alignment structure, marshalling areas, parking areas, roads, toilet facilities, bicycle shelter, purser’s kiosks, paths and utility services).
The Infrastructure Improvement Scheme is one part of the Highland Council’s larger Corran Ferry Project, for which further information can be found here: Project summary | Corran Ferry Project Overview | The Highland Council Feedback relating to other elements of the Corran Ferry Project, for example the project’s conception (i.e., the democratic process of Council approval, funding allocation etc.) should be communicated to the Highland Council or your local Councillor.
Thank you to all who attended and provided comments. Your input is greatly appreciated.
Fixed Link Note: The Infrastructure Improvement Scheme seeks to ensure the essential replacement vessels and infrastructure upgrade can be delivered to prevent service failure, until a fixed link solution can be delivered (e.g. a bridge) A fixed link crossing is a separate, complementary piece of work that remains a long-term aspiration. Responses relating to a fixed link option can be directed to corranferryproject@highland.gov.uk
Updates on the project will be shared here and on:
